Is It Safe To Drink Water Out Of My Garden Hose?
I have been doing this for years when I am thirsty and outside working, but this past weekend my mother in law told me I was poisoning myself with lead. Is this enough lead that I could have seriously health concerns later in life, or is it a small amount that I should be fine?

It is not safe to drink from the garden hose. You can get Hepatitis in addition to many other pathogens. Be safe, carry a bottle of water with you!!
Adam: Just don’t believe everything about drinking out of a hose. I’ve been doing it for about 60 years and I don’t have any health problems. Out on the job site sometimes this is all we have for water. Also I don’t know where the lead is in a rubber or plastic hose with brass connectors or plastic connectors. Regards, Dale

Been doing it myself for many years. The only thing I do differently with the hose is that I let it run a bit until the water cools down and flushes out any possible critters that crawled in.

Wow, I’ve never heard of this before, but I just looked it up and I’m shocked..
some of the things I’m finding say it’s okay to drink from most hoses if you flush the standing water out first. Common sense says this is probably right.. there’s really not enough time to leach much stuff into the water when it’s just rushing through the hose. (If it decomposed that quick, the hose would probably fall apart in a year or so!)
There are also a lot of things saying that the hoses with the most lead are the ones made out of polyvinyl chloride, because it uses lead as a stabilizer in the material that the entire hose is made of. (instead of just the fasteners and stuff.) I looked “polyvinyl chloride garden hose” up on Google images and all the hose pictures I found are those shiny plasticy ones with a criss-cross pattern under the surface. But all my hoses are the light green ones with a sort of leathery/rubbery texture. What are THOSE made out of? Are they safer? Hmmmmm..
