Can Someone Help Me Identify This Metal?

07.28.2010 · Posted in Home

I found this piece of metal in a garden with my metal detector. It showed up as a nickel/small ring/pull tab (pull tab reject was on).
It’s properties:
Non magnetic
Non Porous (can’t be slag)
Very Dense (exact density isn’t known)
Shiny metallic luster
Grey oxidation on outside of it
Kidney shaped (found out it’s not a meteorite as originally thought)
I took it to a geologist and even he can’t figure it out either. We reckon it could be zinc, but where I found it, they wouldn’t have smelt anything so we can’t figure out what it could be. We both reckon it’s a by-product of something man-made and that it’s incredibly ancient.
